“Jio” Digital India, calls out Mukesh Ambani
From #September 5, and anyone can use the #Reliance #Jio #services - voice calls, data, apps for free, till #December 31. #India’s most opulent man has emphatically put forth an offer, which will arguably be hard for his customers to decline. Foraying into the telecom industry, #Mukesh #Ambani announced the arrival of the eagerly awaited #Reliance Jio yesterday, which is all set to be rolled out on September 5. And how.
Besides causing frayed nerves among competitors like #Bharti #Airtel(share price tanked 8.5 per cent), #Idea #Cellular (shares plummeted 7 per cent) and others in India’s $50-billion telecom sector, the #Chairman of #Reliance Industries (RIL) has also opened a kit of bountiful, alluring offers for his customers, with the launch of #Reliance #Jio.
This entails an all-new 4G LTE network on which all local voice calls will be free of cost forever. Using data on mobiles will be a respite from using the same by existing telcos, considering the former will be up to 40 percent cheaper than that offered by the latter. While the current cost of 1 GB data stands at Rs 250, Jio is offering Rs 50 ($0.7) per gigabyte (GB), which is said to be world’s cheapest internet data, as per published data.
What’s more? The facility to use an array of other services at the world’s cheapest tariffs, zero call charges for domestic calls in India, no roaming charges within India, as also Jio’s 10 tariff plans that will soon kick in. If there still was scope left for making waves, students will get 25% more data on Jio main tariffs and Jio's app booking worth Rs 15,000 for an annual subscription will be available free for all active Jio customers till December 31, 2017.
With its 4G network covering 18,000 cities and towns and over 2,00,000 villages, Jio’s reach is already deep. By March 2017, it will cover 90% of India’s population, as per #Ambani. Sluggish internet speed has long been the cause of people’s vexation. Hence, with a peak download speed of 135 MBPS, #Jio is expected to hit the country’s nerve. A reason for this could also be the company’s efforts over the past couple of years towards scaling up its back-end, acquiring large amounts of the 1800 MHz spectrum which is tailor made for 4G across circles, globally.
Given that utility and affordability have always been the mainstay of the bond between #Ambani and his customers, one wonders how much more life will Reliance Jio breathe into the dynamics of the industry and #PM#Modi’s #Digital #India.
